Destination Overview

Spanning over 8,300 square kilometers, Lake Titicaca is an alpine inland sea of sapphire waters framed by the snow-capped peaks of the Cordillera Real. It is revered in Andean mythology as the birthplace of the cosmos.

History & Heritage

According to Inca creation myths, the Sun God Inti emerged from the depths of Lake Titicaca to create Manco Cápac and Mama Ocllo, the founders of Cusco. The lake is famous for the Uros people, who constructed man-made floating islands out of native Totora reeds to evade aggressive empires.
