“I’ve been travelling for three weeks and I can honestly say Walter is one of the best guides I’ve ever met. He was knowledgeable, charismatic and encouraged questions - of which we had a few and he answered all of them. As a veggie I tried the meat food because I was curious but he also went out of his way to make some veggie friendly like the stuffed potato. I loved every part of this tour and the information on the Inkas. Highly recommend as I fell in love with Cusco during this tour. Can’t wait to come back! Thank you Walter!!!!”

“What an incredible experience! Walter was very personable and knowledgeable. He took us around Cusco explaining the architecture and history of the entire city and the Inca civilization. He knew the locals and we tried some amazing food. He gave us great recommendations for the rest of our trip. As a Peruvian woman, I loved this experience and got so much out of it. Walter is an absolute gem!!”

“This is a great opportunity to try some authentic Peruvian street food you might otherwise overlook (especially if you don't speak Spanish). Walter picked out some great locations and took the time to explain the significance of the food, and how it's made. It was clear he has a good relationship with the vendors and all the food was delicious! Highly recommend booking with Walter if you can. He even threw in a few history lessons here and there when we were walking around the Historical Center.”

“If you have a few spare hours, don't hesitate and take this tour. I was the only participant and walking with Walter through Cusco felt like meeting up with a friend who is showing you around in his town. He is very friendly and has good stories about the food we tasted, his city and everything else you want to talk about. Last but not least the food we tasted was amazing. So come hungry and have a good time.”

“We had an incredible time exploring Cusco by night! Walter was extremely knowledgeable about the city and its history making the tour informational while also getting to try some amazing local food we would have never found ourselves and getting to meet the incredible people of Cusco and hear their stories. My wife and I were the only people on our tour and Walter went out of his way to make the experience unique and custom to our tastes. Highly recommend a tour with Walter!”

“Amazing tour, i got to see local places and try food I would have never known about if it wasn’t for Walter! I’m sure a lot of people might be worried like I was about getting sick from “street food” but please don’t, this food is fresh and prepared in front of you. Walter, thank you again for this experience! I won’t forget it.”

“Walter was a phenomenal guide. I highly recommend this tour especially early in your trip. He was really personable, had so much knowledge and took me to places I never would’ve tried on my own. He even took me to a craft beer place that wasn’t on the itinerary because I asked him about craft beer in the city. Thank you Walter!”

“Walter gave us a really great experience in Cusco at night. He told us many interesting details about the story and sprinkled in great snacks from selected street vendors and shops in exactly the right places! The tour also went an hour longer than planned and he was very keen to answer all our questions! After that we were completely full and full of new impressions and facts about the history of the Incas and Cusco in general! I highly recommend taking the tour with Walter!”

Frequently asked questions

Is Cusco street food safe to eat?

Yes, when you eat at vetted stalls. Our guides take you only to vendors they know personally, where ingredients rotate daily and everything is cooked fresh in front of you: anticuchos grilled to order, picarones fried on the spot, and herbal emoliente boiled and served piping hot.

Is it suitable for vegetarians?

Yes. Vegetarians enjoy nearly every stop, including stuffed potato (papa rellena prepared without meat), corn tamales, freshly fried picarones, hot emoliente, artisanal chocolate, and pisco. Please note your vegetarian or dietary preferences when booking so your guide can coordinate portions with each vendor.

How do I deal with the altitude on a walking food tour?

Cusco sits at 3,399 meters (11,152 feet), so digestion and walking feel different on arrival. Our evening food tour follows a gentle, unhurried walking pace with frequent tasting pauses. Drink plenty of water, dress in warm layers for night air, and pace your pisco tasting.

Where do we meet?

All departures meet at 6:30 PM and finish around 8:30 PM in the Historic Center of Cusco, within a short walk of Plaza de Armas. Once you complete your reservation, we send your exact meeting landmark and a Google Maps pin by email and WhatsApp.

What if it rains?

Tours operate rain or shine throughout the year. During Cusco’s rainy season from November to April, evening showers can happen, so bring a waterproof jacket, umbrella, or rain poncho. Several tasting stops take place inside covered stalls, local huariques, and sheltered historic courtyards.
